![]() If they are not able to succeed, Apollo won’t be able to return to his immortal form and the three evil Roman emperors would win. They face many enemies throughout their journey. ![]() They have many dangerous experiences along the way. They also recruit somebody named Piper McLean to help them. Through the course of the book, they face many challenges. In the beginning of the book, Meg, Apollo, and Grover are navigating the labyrinth. He has to achieve this seemingly impossible task without his powers. Once Apollo finds all of the oracles and defeats the emperors, he will be restored to his immortal form. They are also trying to find the evil roman emperor who wants to take control of the oracle. They are trying to find the oracle of Erythraea, which is located somewhere in the southwest U.S. Apollo, a god who has been turned into a teenage boy, is trying to rescue the 5 oracles from Triumvirate Holdings, a group of three evil Roman Emperors, In the start of the book, Meg, Apollo, and Grover are trapped inside a labyrinth. Reading challenges fulfilled: book #43 for the year, and #13 in my Finish the Series Challenge Title comes from: Apollo is seeking a prophecy from the Oracle in the Cave of Trophonius This prophecy was even worse – it was a sonnet!! How funny! Leaving the safety of the demigod training ground, a disgraced Apollo embarks on a quest across North America to find a dangerous ancient-world Oracle while. ![]() The previous prophecy had been given in a *shudder* limerick. In The Dark Prophecy, Apollo and his friends move against an emperor named The New Hercules (also known as Commodus). Each chapter starts with a haiku that gives a hint of what the chapter is about, but you only understand it after you’ve read the chapter. Riordan does have lots of fun with poetry in the book. At one point, Leo event comments that’s how all the prophecies seem to work. The book follows the standard Riordan format – limited time to complete a task with bad guys trying to stop the questing party. She’s around, but mostly just grunts and fights things. Meg isn’t as important a character in this book. They actually gave up immortality as Hunters of Artemis in order to be in a relationship together! Of course, Apollo is completely flabbergasted they would give up the blessing of the gods for love, but he starts to understand their feelings by the end. Emmie and Jo are my new favorite characters, probably at least somewhat because they’re adults in a sea of teenagers and spoiled Emperors. Apollo at least is starting to realize he’s not the center of anyone’s world but his own. That means I’m constantly annoyed by Apollo/Lester’s attitude, but I like the side characters. They defeat Commodus by working together (but only temporarily) and Apollo has the next prophecy so he can figure out where to go next.įinal thoughts: The book is similar in tone to the first in the series. Calypso and Leo stay behind to help protect the Waystation from the coming attack. Book Summary: Apollo is obviously the best thing to grace the universe since before sliced bread - or even before bread. After that adventure, Apollo gets a prophecy stating he (and Meg) must enter the Oracle in the Cave of Trophonius to stop Commodus. There, they discover they must find the Throne of Memory and rescue Georgina from Commodus. The group ends up at the Waystation, one of Artemis’ safe houses. Unfortunately, Apollo and Commodus have a history. They end up in Indianapolis, current home to Commodus. Summary: Apollo/Lester, Leo and Calypso are looking for the next Oracle that is being controlled by an ancient Roman Emperor. Setting: mostly Indianapolis, soon after the events of The Hidden Oracle ![]() Apollo manages to blind Python and make him loosen his hold on him by hitting him in the eyes with the arrow of Dodona and his elbow. The arrow of Dodona sacrifices itself to defeat Python and finishes Python’s prophecy, saying that Apollo will fall, but Apollo must rise again. But Lester is quickly overpowered by the giant snake, who utters a prophecy, saying Apollo will fall, and loses his bow. Length: 401 pages of text, 414 pages with glossary Python starts calling him Apollo, a big achievement for Lester. It helps when it’s in the house for the kids to read. I didn’t think the first book was quite as good as Riordan’s other series, but I still enjoyed it enough to read this book. This is the second book in the Trials of Apollo series.
